Water Filters for Dharma Laksana Orphanage

The Social Team from Access Life Lombok partnered with the Dharma Laksana Orphanage in 2021 to complete a 12-Values character program with high school students. Dharma Laksana provides housing and education for 50 children and staff. This facility has access to a well on their property, but water from this well has visible particles and is not suitable for drinking.  Staff from Dharam Laksana was forced to purchase 200 liters of filtered water per day from a nearby store for Rp50.000/day. Although this facility could continue to buy clean water from a nearby store, the Water Team from Access Life Lombok saw an opportunity to help this orphanage eliminate these ongoing costs.

We partnered with Dharma Laksana Orphanage and installed one water filter unit in a common area adjacent to the kitchen that included; 3 Sawyer micropore water filters, a 350-liter water tank, and a stand.  We taught students how to care for and clean the water filter. During a follow-up visit, staff informed us that the water filters needed to be cleaned every two days because of the poor water quality from the well.  Staff from Dharama Laksana was able to think through a pre-filter solution, and Access Life Lombok installed another Sawyer water filter to help meet their clean water needs.
