Clean Water for Mi'Rojussalam Islamic Boarding School

Islamic boarding schools are prevalent across the island of Lombok and serve as community centers where students come to live and learn.  These schools provide education about the religion of Islam but also seek to educate students in the areas of math, language arts, science, etc.  Character is woven into lessons with the hope this educational structure will result in faith-bearing, educated, successful individuals.

The Mi'Rojussalam Islamic Boarding School is located in West Lombok and has been operational since 1993.  A total of 70 students attend this school, 30 of whom live at this facility.  The school has a well located on the property that supplies water for drinking, cooking, and bathing needs.  While this well provides the necessary water supply, it is not suitable for drinking.  Access Life Lombok was requested to survey this location to see if we could partner with Mi"Rojussalam to overcome their clean water needs.  After meeting with the school's principal, we agreed to install two water filter units at this school.  We installed the first water filter unit adjacent to the kitchen and student dormitories.  The location for the second unit was in front of the school.  The school principal selected this location so that any one of the 1,000 residents from the surrounding community would also have access to this clean water source.  Both water filter units include; 2 Sawyer micropore water filters, a 360-liter water tank, and a stand.  Access Life Lombok expects this project will improve the student's health and will provide a benefit to the surrounding community.
