Finding ourselves regularly visiting our married children (Diane’s son and Lynn’s daughter) in Southeast Asia, we were challenged to “be the change we wanted to see in the world.” Access Life International (ALI) became an avenue to attempt to be that change.  It began as dream in 2006 to import wheelchairs and has developed into a multifaceted organization providing mobility and positioning aids, water purification systems, and a Community Health Education program on two different islands in Indonesia.  And through it all, our involvement has given us a great respect for a culture that is not our own.

When visiting villages where the ALI team has had an impact, we see a community that has been actively involved in planning, building, and maintaining a new water system.  We see a community that has actively created wheelchair access for one of their own. And we see a community that joins on a regular basis to attend a health education meeting to improve their lives and the lives of their children.  In 2018, new leadership for ALI has emerged.  We will always be available to consult and support as needed, but we both are looking forward to see what the future holds for ALI.

I recognized a great need in Bali and Indonesia was access to clean water. It is still difficult for many people to have access to clean water. When I started working on a water tank project in Kintamani, Bali, I met friends who had the same heart to help provide water to communities in Indonesia. From there, we worked to found Access Life Bali and then Access Life Lombok.

Dari situ, kami bekerjasama untuk mendirikan Yayasan Access Life Bali kemudian Yayasan Access Life Lombok.
